Ada from Orlando Florida wants information about growing Musssenda.

The Mussenda is a fast grower, thus it should be fertilized regularly (but not heavily).   The ones that I have in full sun flower much better then the ones in shade.
Mine bloom from May to December.  When the temperature drops to 40f the plant will drop all of the leaves, the flowers will disappear in the low 40s.  At that point I just forget them until May.  In the 30s you will get die back of branches and 32 will kill the plant.
I would advise that you bring it in on cold nights.  If your plant is in a pot be sure to keep it watered.  They don't like to be dry.
Is there anyone in the Orlando area that has been successful with Mussenda?

'Can you please provide culture information for Sobralias. I grow some in West Palm but need help to grow them better. Thanks, Gerard'

My plants grow in full sun in the middle of the day and the rest of the time large trees give some shade.  They get fertilized once a week along with all the other orchids.  I have two plants in the ground and they are doing well.  Last years heat scorched some of the leaves.  The ones in pots seemed to have most scorching.

The biggest problem is getting a plant that is established.  The one that I bought at the Redlands Festival was bare root and roots didn't look good.  I just went out to the green house and checked the plant.  It's putting up a new growth, but not very vigorous.  The media is the same as my Phals.  The ones in the ground don't have any special media other than media from the pot.  I have been told that they don't like to have there roots disturbed.
Most of my mature plants produce a keiki now and then.  I wait until they have some roots starting.  If I leave them on the mother plant they will die.  Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden have many Sobralias in the ground but the don't pick their keikis.
